LUPRO, a green energy resource production company, announced on the 18th that it attended the launch briefing session for the Saemangeum New Port Eco-Friendly Cold Chain Industry Demonstration Complex project held in Gimje City and presented a future green energy industry model strategy and detailed plans utilizing green hydrogen and green ammonia.

Gimje City has launched the eco-friendly cold chain industry demonstration complex project as a first step toward developing Saemangeum New Port as a key port on the southwestern coast. Saemangeum New Port is scheduled to be built with six 50,000-ton capacity berths by 2030 and three more by 2040, for a total of nine berths. The port is scheduled to open early with two berths in the second half of next year.

Saemangeum New Port is also scheduled to be officially designated as a nationally managed trade port. As procedures for the port's opening in the second half of 2026 are in full swing, Gimje City has consistently voiced the need for fostering the green hydrogen and green ammonia industries in conjunction with the internal development of Saemangeum.

In line with this government policy, LUPRO has presented a strategy and specific implementation plans for a future green energy business model that can drive the green hydrogen and green ammonia industries through the Saemangeum New Port.

An Jeong-dong, Executive Director of LUPRO's Business Strategy Division, presented tailored plans to foster the Saemangeum New Port as a global green energy hub in line with the pressing RE100 and carbon neutrality policies. These include: ▲ building green energy storage and bunkering infrastructure; ▲ establishing a green hydrogen and green ammonia-based industrial ecosystem; and ▲ establishing the port as a logistics hub for the southwestern coastal region as a green ammonia hub.

LUPRO's proposed green energy industry model, linked to the Saemangeum New Port, has garnered significant attention as a strategic core industry supporting recent government policies centered around Gwangju and Saemangeum in North Jeolla Province. It aims to strengthen energy security and achieve carbon neutrality goals, including establishing a national energy security hub for sustainable economic growth, establishing a global eco-friendly energy supply chain, and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Kim Se-ho, Chairman of LUPRO, stated, "The green hydrogen and green ammonia industries, linked to the Saemangeum New Port, a key port on the southwestern coast, are strategic core infrastructure that will drive future new industries in North Jeolla Province and Gimje City. We will fulfill our role and responsibility as a leading company that drives sustainable economic growth through the green energy industry at the Saemangeum New Port and contributes to enhancing national competitiveness."
