LUPRO (Chairman Kim Se-ho), a green energy resource production company, announced on the 19th that it held a donation ceremony for the Hwaseong City Welfare Foundation to commemorate the completion of the Songsan Green Energy Fuel Cell Power Plant, a project it proposed and participated in, and to donate funds to the Local Mutual Growth Fund.
Instead of holding a completion ceremony, the event will utilize the related budget for the Local Mutual Growth Fund. Songsan Green Energy Co., Ltd. will donate 30 million won to the Hwaseong City Welfare Foundation to benefit the residents of Songsan-myeon, Hwaseong Special City, near the power plant. The donation will be used to purchase an automated external defibrillator (AED) and fire extinguisher for the Songsan-myeon community center, and training will also be provided to local residents on their use.
The ceremony was attended by officials from Songsan Green Energy Co., Ltd. and LUPRO, special purpose corporations (SPCs) established to build the fuel cell power plant; shareholders Hwaseong Urban Development Corporation, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, and SK Ecoplant; the Songsan-myeon mayor; and representatives from the Hwaseong City Welfare Foundation. The ceremony included a progress report on the plant's progress, a donation ceremony, and a commemorative photo session.
The newly completed 19.8MW Songsan Green Energy fuel cell power plant generates approximately 156,000 MWh of electricity annually using city gas. This amount is enough to power approximately 45,000 households for a year, contributing to regional power self-sufficiency and a stable supply. Fuel cells are more efficient and produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions than coal-fired power plants, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 75,000 tons annually for the same amount of power produced. This environmental impact is equivalent to planting approximately 11 million pine trees.
Furthermore, the fuel cell power generation project is noteworthy for simultaneously addressing the dual challenges of expanding distributed energy and realizing energy welfare by linking it with city gas supply. The fuel cell power plant provides a stable source of demand for city gas suppliers, and suppliers, in turn, build infrastructure such as city gas pipelines. This provides a foundation for residents of Songsan-myeon, an area previously unserved by city gas, to enjoy the benefits of city gas (such as reduced cooking and heating costs).
LUPRO Chairman Kim Se-ho stated, "The Songsan Green Energy Fuel Cell Power Plant is an exemplary case of effective, eco-friendly energy implementation in collaboration with the local community, despite limited land area." He added, "The donation ceremony has served as an opportunity to foster mutual growth and prosperity with the local community, which has laid the foundation for an eco-friendly public energy infrastructure. We will continue to establish ourselves as a socially responsible, eco-friendly energy company."
